It depends blood sugars should NOT be measured with in two hours oeatingng or drinking, as even in a healthpersonon this will most likely show a high reading. What you need to do is test her sugar levels after at least two hours, in thPackagege her testing strips came in it should have a chart telling you the normal range. Different machine company's may use slightly different ways of testing and have slightly different 'normal ranges'. Whoever told/suggested to you to test her levels should have given you some idea of the range they wanted to try and keep your grandmothers in if not then contact them and ask, if you do not know what levels to expect and what to do if they fall outside these levels then all testing will do is cause stress which will mess with the levels anyway. A non-diabetic's fasting glucose is typically 70 to 100 mg/dL or 3.9 to 5.6 mmol/L. A non-diabetic's post-prandial (after meal) glucose typically does not exceed 140 mg/dL or 7.8 mmol/L. Please note that I say 'typically' as there will be some variation from day to day. The goal for a diabetic is similar but not identical. Physicians accept slightly higher readings to avoid excessive episodes of hypoglycemia. Nonetheless a reading of 299 mg/dL or 16.6 mmol/L is simply not acceptable. I would recommend that your grandmother check her fasting and 2 hour post-prandial glucose and call these readings in to the physician's nurse. The nurse will call back with further instructions from the physician. Although your grandmother's post-prandial reading was indeed 'high' it is not likely to be 'dangerous'. Depends how long after the meal, what she ate, and I am assuming she is diabetic. If this is 2 hours after a meal with a moderate amount of food with carbohydrates, yes!!!

No, that is too high. Check again two hours after eating. If it is over 125 then she should discuss this with her doctor.
