My fasting blood sugar level is 6.7. What does this mean?


I recently had a blood fasting test done and the result was 6.7.

That your control is good. Normal levels in a non diabetic would be 4-5. 6.7 is only slightly elevated and demonstrate good control. My GP is happy if levels are 10 or lower.

    Your fasting level is above normal and this is sometimes seen in pre-diabetes. Cut down your weight, undertake exercises and repeat the test after 3 months.

  • Dude you are most likely diabetic. Go to a DOCTOR, not the internet for a proper diagnosis. Eating just a 15 carbs a day is a good way to make yourself even more ill. Once diagnosed, see a specialist – endocrynologist. Dont let your general practitioner handle it, s/he has no idea what to do about diabetes. See someone with the proper skills. If your doctor told you that you are “borderline” diabetic he is severely limited in his understanding of diabetes. Only if you live in San Diego might you be borderline anything. Healthy diabetics eat 3 healthy meals a day. Get a dietition to help.

    As soon as it gets to 6.5 it can be starting to effect your body, such as your kidneys, nerves and eyes. I would try and loose any excess weight and reduce the amount of sugar you eat. Have a test done in 3 months and if no change it may be time to have somer medicine to help.

  • There is a lot of stuff on the internet that is basically fat-shaming diabetics for causing their own diabetes with their bad diet and lack of exercise and general lack of moral fibre. A lot of this stuff is written by non-doctors, often with a supplement or diet or training plan to sell that they claim will completely cure diabetes if only people stick to it.

    I read this interesting book https://tr.im/IZ2SV that gave me a lot of useful tips about my disease and also a different perspective on the best therapeutical approach. I think you should read it too.
